I am an independent curator and Co-Director of BULK Space based in Detroit, MI. Since the start of my career I have worked both locally and nationally to ensure marginalized creatives have access to viable resources and opportunities within the arts. With over ten years of experience in art and culture, I have worked with numerous national and international arts organizations and institutions, including the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA), Red Bull Arts, Contemporary&, Monument Lab, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD), SPACES, Independent Curators International, Lincoln Center, and ApexArt.
I seek to amplify voices that challenge the status quo by delving into the zeitgeist and spotlighting contemporary artists working at the margins. Central to my work is creating opportunities for meaningful community engagement, ensuring that the relationship between the art and programming resonates beyond institutional spaces and into the lives of those who experience it firsthand.
A significant focus of my practice revolves around cultural place-keeping through site-specific and place-based works of art. For me, art is most impactful when it interacts with its environment. I believe that when art is in dialogue with its surroundings, it becomes more than an object or installation; it transforms into an experience, a story, or a memory. I often ask myself and those around me to consider: What does it mean to experience art versus witness it?
